Dye sublimation printing uses thermal energy transfer dye onto the print medium. The intensity of each color is controlled by the temperature change of the print head. There are up to 256 levels.
Because the dyes are applied to the card through the sublimation process and become gaseous, the three primary colors merge with each other to form a continuous color scale. In terms of printing effects, the color thermal sublimation printer can be said to be the best partner of the card. So，this type of printer is often referred to as a card printer. It is especially suitable for the delicate skin texture requirements of portraits, and it also has the characteristics of long-term preservation and not easy to fade.
Yellow, Magenta，Cyan, this is what we call the three primary colors, any other color can be achieved through the three original colors, and sublimation printer is to achieve a variety of colors and color depth through the combination of three colors. However, during the sublimation printing process, the three colors are not printed at the same time, but each time print a color, the printing is combined three times to achieve the desired color requirement. It is also for this reason that the print media needs to pass through the printer at least three times during the printing process, so the printing process of the dye-sublimation printer is slower, but the high photo print quality is enough to make up for this shortcoming. After cards are colored three times, there is a black and lamination process. That is, in the three-layer color, a black band is used to darken the black portion (because the black color of YMC synthesis is not black enough), and then the special material on the ink ribbon sublimates and adheres to the surface of the card to form a protective film, with antioxidant discoloration, waterproof, anti-fingerprint and other effects.
The ribbons of the dye-sublimation card printers are one-time used , the Yellow, Magenta，Cyan on each ribbon are a group, each time a card is printed, a set of ribbons is rolled. So even though the dye-sublimation card printer can print at a low resolution, the printing cost cannot be reduced, and the printing speed can only be slightly increased. It is always recommended to print at the highest resolution.
